Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness in Ethiopia and the rest of the world. It often, but not always, involves increased intraocular pressure. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve of the eye, leading to irreversible vision loss. It is a chronic disease, usually painless, though some acute forms cause severe pain. Because glaucoma is frequently asymptomatic, regular checkups with measurement of intraocular pressure are important.
At Biruh Vision Eye Clinic, we are fully equipped to diagnose and treat glaucoma. We have automated equipment, including TonoPen and non-contact tonometer, to measure intraocular pressure. We also use an automated visual field analyzer to assess the extent of optic nerve damage. We provide modern treatments for glaucoma, including laser therapy, surgical treatment with anti-metabolites (Mitomicin) and glaucoma shunt devices.
